Frequent Questions
How do I select the right
JourneySong album? Is the music on Song of the Spirit similar to the music
on Soul Journey?
Soul Journey is all
non-metered chant from the middle ages, with voice and harp. Its
repetitive rhythms have been used for centuries to let the body release
the spirit. It is extensively used in hospices and other settings that are
about "letting go."
Song of the Spirit is also
designed to reduce anxiety and
soothe the spirit, but for people in transition, retreat workshops, and
meditation. Song of the Spirit incorporates many different
instruments and voices, and the selections are all metered music. Two
selections are from the Jewish tradition while the remainder are
omni-denominational.
Is there singing?
Soul Journey and Song of the
Spirit both feature the human voice. Soul Journey is a single
artist for all selections, while Song of the Spirit features a
variety of male and female voices. Additional CDs that are in production
will be all-instrumental. (Contact us if you
would like to be alerted when new items become available.)
Is sheet music available for the
selections on the JourneySong CDs?
Almost all selections have printed
music in the form of lead sheets, and experienced musicians will be able
to add their own improvisations, just as the original artists have.

I'm planning a workshop. Which is
the right CD, and how do I apply it?
One workshop that uses our music
extensively starts his sessions with Song of the Spirit, and an
exercise for centering. Participants find they are encourage to put their
outside concerns aside and focus on the immediate matters at hand.
Another workshop uses "God Beyond All
Names" and "Holy Darkness" (on the Song of the Spirit CD) on the
final day to help participants let past difficulties go, and make a
transition to applying the new lessons of the workshop.
My work is primarily in
bereavement counseling. Which CD is right for me?
Soul Journey is specifically
organized to be effective in working with people who are actively dying
and their loved ones who may be close. In the dying process, certain modes
will be more effective for some people, and even the most effective mode
for an individual may change over time. That's why Soul Journey has
such variation within the general theme of "chants", rather than widely
differing types of music.
